What is the First Year Experience Program?

The First Year Experience Program is a series of activities designed to help you be successful while at North Seattle College. At North, our program includes:

  • New Student Orientation
  • First Year Experience Course: HDC 101 – Orientation to College Success

Who is the First Year Experience Program for?

Everyone! All new North Seattle College students are encouraged to attend New Student Orientation and take HDC 101 in their first two quarters at the college. You can explore both of these opportunities below.

HDC 101 – Orientation to College Success

Human Development Course (HDC 101) – Orientation to College Success is a 2-credit course that students should take in their first two quarters at North. The course focuses on students meeting their learning goals, navigating college resources, building financial literacy, exploring careers and creating an academic plan.  

Follow the steps listed on the Registration page to register for the course. If you aren’t sure how to register or have questions about the course, please contact your academic advisor or your retention specialist (Seattle Promise).

You may be able to use FASFA/WASFA, Workforce, or Seattle Promise funding to pay for this course. If not, don’t worry – we’ve got you covered with our HDC 101 Scholarship!
